Synopsis: Wildhood 2022 Two brothers embark on a journey to find their birth mother after their abusive father lied for years about her whereabouts; Along the way, they reconnect with their original heritage and make new friends. Initially, Wildhood begins with a standard approach to teen stories——the young man is introverted, and the father, who is verbally and physically abusive, is a tantrum and outspoken homophobic. There is an authentic, unfiltered cruelty and sadness with every word the action spewed out by Arvin (Joel Thomas Hynes), the Caucasian father of a mixed-race son. Thankfully released a week after Father’s Day, Wildhood also seems like the kind of LGBTQ narrative you might not want to experience during Pride Month all the time for a variety of reasons (notably that it can be traumatic for anyone who has experienced the same dangerous dynamic).
