Once The Twin opens against a backdrop of endless cornfields, you can immediately confirm two things about Taneli Mustonn’s Scandinavian chiller set; First, nothing good happens when a horror film features a certain crop, and second, it’s the start of a seemingly endless list of tropes that filmmakers use to generate fears that mostly don’t work. All of this ultimately leads to a touch of Shyamalan’s style, which is so well executed as a punctuation mark for Palmer’s evolution of grief handling.
