Synopsis: The Outfit 2022 Leonard Burling is an English cutter who runs a shop in a neighborhood controlled by Irish mob boss Roy Boyle. Chief enforcement Boyle, Francis, and his son and second-in-command Ritchie use the Burling store as a repository for dirty money; Burling tolerated this arrangement because Boyle and his men were his best customers. Burling also has a complicated relationship with store receptionist Mable, who is also Ritchie’s girlfriend. Mable was not interested in the Burling trade and store ownership, wanting instead to leave Chicago and travel the world.
One night, Francis shows up at the shop with Ritchie, who had been shot in the torso after a confrontation with the rival LaFontaine family, a black criminal organization. Burling is forced at gunpoint to treat Ritchie’s wounds and hides a briefcase containing a copy of an FBI tape with detailed information on crew operations, provided by “Outfit”, a national syndicate founded by Al Capone that protects criminal gangs from the law. Francis called Roy and left, leaving Burling and Ritchie alone. The two men talk and begin to bond, and Burling uses Ritchie’s naivety to convince him that Francis is an informant and plans to turn the tape over to the FBI.
