Synopsis: Elvis 2022’s former manager of Elvis Presley, Colonel Tom Parker, is on his deathbed due to suffering a stroke. Treating a gambling addiction that left him impoverished, he looks back on how he first met the future King of Rock and Roll. Raised largely by his doting mother, Gladys, Elvis spent his childhood in the poorest parts of Mississippi. He finds an escape in the comic book adventure Captain Marvel Jr. and especially in song, although once he moved with his parents to Memphis, he was ridiculed by his peers for his fascination with the African-American music of Memphis’ Beale Street. Today, Parker is a carnival “seller” who considers himself the modern PT Barnum.

Although Parker partnered with country singer Hank Snow, Parker soon realized Elvis’ crossover potential when he heard the white artist “sound black” on his groundbreaking single, “That’s All Right”. That night, she saw Elvis at the Louisiana Hayride show, finding him a talented musician with a strong sex appeal. Parker persuades Elvis to let him take exclusive control of his career, embarking on a meteoric climb that sees the Presleys lift from poverty. Ordinary Americans are divided in their opinion of the singer, with Democrat-minded Southerners (including the segregated Mississippi Senator Jim Eastland) worried that his music will harm their children and soothe racial animosities. Eastland summons Parker to an informal hearing, where he questions Parker about his mysterious past.
