Synopsis: CBI 5 The Brain 2022 tells of a case that confuses them until clues to the truth are finally revealed in typical CBI style. The case, which was imposed on the agency, involved a series of murders, which the media dubbed the ‘basket murders’. Sethurama Iyer (Mammootty) picks it up, and he chases after every clue, memory snippet and utterances mindlessly, eventually unmasking the real criminal. Since the film orbits around a lot of murders, it’s a story you might forget unless you pay enough attention. There are many suspects; their identities and motives and even randomly thrown hook lines from various scenes might make you doubt everyone on screen. But as they say in the ‘sessions’ in the film, this is a case that really challenges the ‘smart’ Iyer as well, so, it’s not one of those reel cases one might enjoy while binge-watching. Just like investigators, one also has to get involved when new scenarios and suspects emerge. And if you’re a spectator who finds it entertaining, the process can be thrilling; otherwise, it can be a little confusing.
